AI, biotech and data-driven convergence research to anchor new initiative
Soongsil University has officially launched its G-LAMP project unit, aimed at strengthening basic science research and cultivating next-generation convergence talent.
The university held an inauguration ceremony for the Soongsil University G-LAMP Project Unit at Hyeongnam Hall on May 28.
The G-LAMP project is a university basic research support initiative backed by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. It aims to enhance universities' basic science research capabilities and build a world-class research ecosystem.
The Soongsil G-LAMP unit plans to build a research environment centered on AI, biotech and data-driven convergence research, while working to cultivate the next generation of research talent.
The unit also plans to expand its industry-academia-research cooperation networks to promote joint research and academic exchange, and will pursue global collaborative research and international cooperation.
Alongside this, the unit will run programs to strengthen the research capabilities of both undergraduate and graduate students and work to develop advanced research infrastructure.
Community outreach will also be a priority. The unit plans to run basic science education and mentoring programs for high school students, establishing a research and education platform that engages the local community.
"We will use this inauguration as an opportunity to further expand basic science-based convergence research and global cooperation," said Kang Wi-gyeong, head of the Soongsil University G-LAMP unit. "We will do our utmost to nurture outstanding research talent to lead the science and technology of the future."
Meanwhile, the unit plans to expand its cooperation network with domestic and international research institutions and operate a range of academic and educational programs to strengthen its research competitiveness.
