New season shifts focus to regulars' perspective, features overnight filming
Award-winning PD Ryu Bok-yeol returns as director
LG Hellovision is set to air season 2 of its original documentary "Danggoljip," aiming to draw viewers into the everyday lives of long-standing neighborhood eateries.
The company announced Thursday that the second season would premiere at 7:30 p.m. that day on The Life channel, The Life 2 channel and LG Hellovision's regional channels.
"Danggoljip" — a contraction of the Korean phrase meaning "your neighborhood hidden gem" — explores the history of tucked-away local restaurants and the lives of the people who have kept them running. LG Hellovision said the positive reception to season 1 prompted the production of a follow-up.
According to LG Hellovision, season 2 sets itself apart from its predecessor with a guest-centered approach. While season 1 focused on the stories behind each establishment and the philosophy of its owner, the new season centers on the actual experiences of regular customers.
Another distinguishing feature is an overnight filming format, with crews spending two days and one night observing each location. LG Hellovision said the series captures why customers keep coming back and the bonds they build with owners over time. The season premiere, which aired Thursday, followed the regulars of Jingukjip, a hansik restaurant specializing in "gegunji" — a spicy crab stew — in Seosan, South Chungcheong Province.
LG Hellovision said it expects director Ryu Bok-yeol, a senior producer at the company, to draw deeper audience resonance given his proven track record. Ryu recently won the producer award at the 2026 Cable TV Broadcasting Grand Prize.
"This season, we stayed longer in each place and captured time as it naturally unfolded, so viewers can expect the real, unscripted stories of Danggoljip," Ryu said. "Everyone has at least one place like this in their heart — I hope this series brings that feeling back and leaves a lasting impression."
Season 2 of "Danggoljip" airs every Thursday at 7:30 p.m. on The Life channel, with a repeat broadcast at 8:30 p.m. on LG Hellovision's regional channels. It is also available on The Life 2 and Channel i, and episodes will be released sequentially on the YouTube channel "Hello Life," which has 1.04 million subscribers.
