'ThinQ 26°C Challenge' runs through August
LG ThinQ app tracks set temperature and usage time
Campaign launched in 2024
Cumulative savings of roughly 2.83 million kWh over two years
LG Electronics announced Thursday it will run the "ThinQ 26°C Challenge," a summer energy-saving campaign, for the third consecutive year in partnership with the Korea Energy Agency.
The campaign encourages customers to set their air conditioners to 26 degrees Celsius — the temperature the government recommends. Now in its third season, it first launched in 2024.
Over the past two years, the campaign drew roughly 129,000 cumulative participants and is estimated to have saved approximately 2.83 million kWh of electricity. That is enough to power about 9,200 four-person urban households for a month, based on the average monthly consumption of 307 kWh per household.
This year's ThinQ 26°C Challenge Season 3 runs for about three months through Aug. 31. Customers can join by registering their air conditioner on the AI home platform LG ThinQ app, then visiting the event page to pledge energy savings and consent to the collection and use of personal information.
Participants must run their air conditioner at a set temperature of 26 degrees Celsius or higher for at least 10 hours during the campaign period. The LG ThinQ app automatically tracks and calculates the set temperature and usage time to verify whether the mission has been completed.
Participants will be entered into a prize draw for items including an LG Styler, an LG PuriCare HydroTower, an LG Wine Cellar Mini and Baemin gift vouchers. The more hours a customer logs, the higher their chances of winning.
Among participants, those who purchase or subscribe to an energy efficiency Class 1 product at an LG Electronics Best Shop will receive a 50,000-won (about $33) Onnuri gift voucher on a first-come, first-served basis.
Jeong Ki-hyeon, executive vice president and head of LG Electronics' HS Platform Business Center, said the company will use LG ThinQ and its AI-based energy management features to spread a culture of energy-conscious air conditioner use in customers' everyday lives.
