Project set for 2029 completion, to generate 330 MW of power
Doosan Enerbility announced Monday it has signed a construction contract for the Jafurah Cogeneration Power Plant Phase 2 in Saudi Arabia with a consortium of Korea Electric Power Corp. and Saudi Aramco. The contract is valued at 840 billion won (approximately $556 million).
Korea Electric Power Corp. will participate as the project developer, overseeing business development and operations. Doosan Enerbility will execute the project on an EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) basis, handling everything from design and equipment supply to installation, construction and commissioning.
The Phase 2 plant will be built near the Jafurah gas field, roughly 400 kilometers east of the Saudi capital Riyadh, with a target completion date of 2029. Once complete, it will generate 330 megawatts of electricity and 465 tons of steam per hour to supply power and heat to the surrounding gas field. The steam turbines — a key component — will be manufactured and supplied by Doosan Skoda Power, a subsidiary of Doosan Enerbility.
Doosan Enerbility has been strengthening its position in Saudi Arabia by securing a string of large-scale projects in recent months. Last year, the company signed construction contracts for the Luma 1 and Nairyah 1 gas combined-cycle power plants, valued at around 2.2 trillion won, and the PP12 gas combined-cycle power plant, valued at around 890 billion won.
"It is meaningful to have secured this Phase 2 project following the Phase 1 contract back in 2022," said Lee Hyun-ho, head of Doosan Enerbility's Plant EPC business group. "As large-scale power generation projects are expected to continue being awarded across Saudi Arabia and the broader Middle East, we will further sharpen our market push on the strength of our accumulated technology and experience."
Meanwhile, Doosan Enerbility's order backlog stood at 24.13 trillion won as of the first quarter of this year, up 45.9 percent from the same period a year earlier.
