Yangcheon-gu operating 18 sites including floor fountains and water playgrounds; Geumcheon-gu and Jungnang-gu also bolstering heat-relief infrastructure

Seoul's autonomous districts are opening floor fountains, water playgrounds and cooling-fog systems across the city as they gear up for the early summer heat.

Yangcheon-gu is operating 18 water facilities in the district this month, including floor fountains and water playgrounds, district officials said Tuesday. Key sites include the floor fountain at Paris Park, the Haenuri Fountain Plaza and the fountain at Anyangcheon Silaecheon Ecological Park. Paris Park is running its floor fountain and musical fountain on alternating schedules from noon to 7:20 p.m., giving residents a cool place to rest.

Children's water playgrounds will open in stages. The water playground at Anyangcheon Family Garden will open June 20 and run through September. Starting July 1, water playgrounds at Baekseok, Bangok and Gyeongin Children's Parks and Hanul Neighborhood Park are set to open, serving as neighborhood summer retreats. The children's water play area at West Seoul Lake Park will also open during the summer school holiday period.

Geumcheon-gu began operating 13 non-contact water facilities — including floor fountains, wall fountains and streams — on Monday. Sites include the area in front of Geumcheon-gu Office Station, Garo Park, SangiSeup Park, Hoamsan Forest Trail Park, Geumcheon Waterfall Park, Siheung Valley and Geumnare Central Park. The district will run the facilities flexibly through September — one to three sessions per day, 30 minutes each — adjusting for the characteristics of each site, visitor demand and weather conditions. Officials plan to conduct regular safety checks for electrical faults and slip hazards and to strengthen "no entry and no water play" signage to prevent accidents. Contact-type children's water play facilities will operate separately from July 16 to Aug. 16.

Jungnang-gu is also stepping up its heat-relief measures. The district is activating cooling-fog systems at Junghwa Water Park and Yongma Waterfall Park, as well as at traditional markets including Myeonmok, Dongwon and Woolim markets. A new cooling-fog installation is being added at Bonghwasan Neighborhood Park. Starting next month, the district plans to set up "Jungnang Ongdalsaem" water stations along the Jungnangcheon riverside and in nearby parks, offering residents free chilled drinking water.

"With another hot summer expected this year, the districts will pay even greater attention to building and maintaining water features and heat-reduction facilities so residents can safely cool off close to home," an official from one Seoul district said.
