Faces charges of quasi-sexual acts through deception and production of sexual exploitation material

A taekwondo instructor in his 30s who was sentenced to prison in a first-instance ruling for illegally filming the women's changing room at his gym thousands of times has been referred to prosecutors on additional charges of committing sex crimes against a minor student.

The Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province said it referred the instructor, identified only by his surname, to prosecutors in January on charges of committing quasi-sexual acts through deception and producing sexual exploitation material.

The instructor is accused of blindfolding a teenage female student in October last year, performing quasi-sexual acts on her and filming the encounter.

The additional offenses came to light while investigators were analyzing footage from the illegal filming of the women's changing room at his taekwondo gym.

He had earlier been indicted in December last year on charges of secretly installing a hidden camera in the women's changing room at his Yongin gym and illegally filming female students and instructors approximately 6,300 times between March 2023 and November 2025.

A court recently sentenced him to seven years in prison in the first-instance ruling, and both the prosecution and the defendant have filed appeals.
