'MP010' phase 1 trial application planned this year as company pursues technology transfer
Medpacto has filed global patents for its next-generation anticancer drug candidate MP010 as the company moves toward commercialization and technology transfer abroad.
According to the company Monday, Medpacto recently completed individual national filings under the Patent Cooperation Treaty for MP010's composition-of-matter patent — titled "Anti-EDB antibody or EDB-binding polypeptide and uses thereof" — in 22 countries, including the United States, European nations, Japan and China. A domestic patent application filed in South Korea in 2024 is currently under review.
Medpacto plans to submit an investigational new drug application for MP010 this year. The company said it is in the final stages of preparation, including wrapping up toxicity studies and completing manufacturing and quality control work.
MP010 selectively binds to EDB-FN, a protein overexpressed in the tumor microenvironment, while targeting TGF-β — a key regulator of the tumor microenvironment that drives immune evasion and cancer metastasis. The compound is being developed as a first-in-class drug candidate.
In preclinical studies, MP010 administered as a monotherapy demonstrated high complete response rates, long-term survival and immune memory effects in pancreatic cancer and triple-negative breast cancer, both considered difficult-to-treat malignancies. The results have drawn attention from global pharmaceutical companies and investors even before clinical trials begin.
"We will do our best to enter clinical trials quickly and pursue early technology transfer," a company official said.
