Actor Ma Dong-seok, 55, whose Korean name is Lee Dong-seok, lost his father Tuesday.
The family announced the death in an obituary notice, saying his father passed away on June 2.
"We were not able to reach out to everyone individually, and we ask for your understanding," the family said, adding that those who wished to pay their respects were welcome to attend.
The funeral hall for Ma's father, the late Lee Ki-tae, has been set up at Room 17 of Samsung Medical Center's funeral hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. The funeral procession is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday, with burial at Seoul Memorial Park.
Ma is receiving mourners at the funeral home alongside his wife, Ye Jung-hwa.
Ma was born and raised in South Korea but emigrated to the United States in his senior year of high school and obtained American citizenship. He set a remarkable record with "The Roundup" franchise, drawing over 10 million moviegoers in three consecutive installments across parts 1 through 4, and recently began filming the fifth entry in the series.
After a long public relationship, Ma and Ye Jung-hwa registered their marriage in 2021 and held a wedding ceremony in 2024.
