A total of 1.026 billion won (about $679,000) will fund a complete resurfacing of Jayang Gangbyeon-gil, where aging pavement has caused severe cracking and potholes; an additional 400 million won in special grants secured to expand the project to cover the entire stretch
Gwangjin-gu will fully resurface approximately 2,500 meters of asphalt road along Jayang Gangbyeon-gil — from 31 Jayangno 3ga-gil to 37 Jayang Gangbyeon-gil — between June and July.
Despite serving as a major secondary road used by city buses, Jayang Gangbyeon-gil has deteriorated significantly in recent years, developing alligator cracking, subsidence and other damage that has compromised traffic safety and raised the risk of accidents.
The district had originally planned to prioritize only the stretch between Gwangyang High School and Jayang Beonyeong-ro due to budget constraints. To address residents' complaints about the equally deteriorated Jayang Beonyeong-ro–Sinyang Middle School section, the district pursued additional funding and secured 400 million won in special grants.
With those funds now in hand, the district plans to overhaul the entire length of Jayang Gangbyeon-gil — from Gwangyang High School to Sinyang Middle School — rather than a partial stretch, creating a safer and more comfortable road environment for residents.
During construction, city bus route 2222, which operates along the affected corridor, will run on a temporary detour from June 8 through July 10. The bus's garage departure point will change for the duration of the project, suspending service on the existing Jayang Miso Pharmacy segment; buses will instead be rerouted toward Sinjacho Elementary School. Detour information will be posted at bus stops, dong community centers and through the Achasan Meari bulletin.
"We expect this project to improve safety for residents who rely on city buses and to make Jayang Gangbyeon-gil a much more pleasant road," a district official said. "We ask for residents' understanding and cooperation, as the bus detour and other construction-related inconveniences are unavoidable during the work period."
