GM evaluates more than 6,000 suppliers worldwide; Namsung recognized for bumper systems and injection molds

Namsung Aluminium, a manufacturing affiliate of SM Group, has been named an outstanding supplier by General Motors for the 15th consecutive year.

The company's automotive division announced Tuesday that it received the honor at GM's 34th Supplier of the Year (SOY) ceremony, held recently in Austin, Texas — extending its winning streak from 2011 through 2025.

Namsung Aluminium Automotive Division CEO Jung Soon-won attended the ceremony to accept the trophy.

GM selects its Supplier of the Year honorees from roughly 6,000 partners worldwide, evaluating them annually on technology, innovation, supply stability and sustainability. This year, 103 companies received the award, including 20 from South Korea.

Namsung Aluminium's automotive division was recognized for supplying major bumper systems and large- and medium-sized injection molds to GM Korea. In the auto parts industry, quality stability and on-time delivery are widely regarded as key factors in maintaining long-term partnerships with automakers.

Particularly notable in the evaluation was the company's record of zero SPPS issues over the past year. SPPS — the Supplier Product and Process System — is a communication procedure used by suppliers and customers to resolve product quality problems when they arise.

The company's attainment of BIQS Level 5, the highest rating in GM's quality assessment system, also contributed to the award. BIQS is the standard GM uses to evaluate suppliers' manufacturing quality and process management capabilities.

"Being named SOY for 15 consecutive years is a testament to our consistent efforts in advancing quality, developing new technologies and ensuring stable supply," CEO Jung said. "Above all, our employees came together to achieve zero SPPS issues and attain BIQS Level 5, proving that we are at the highest level of quality management on a global scale."

He added that the company would "not rest on its laurels, but work to maximize our expertise and business know-how so we can grow into an even more trusted partner in the global automotive parts market."
