Marking its 20th anniversary since registering as a certified market in 2006, Sinnyeong Market will hold a three-day celebration from June 5 to 7. Selected for Korea Airports Corporation's community support program, the event aims to foster solidarity with residents in airport noise-affected areas.
Sinnyeong Market, the traditional market representing Yangcheon-gu, will hold its largest-ever anniversary celebration over three days from June 5 to 7 to mark its 20th founding anniversary.
The market traces its roots to a small alley of shops in Sinwol 1-dong and has grown into a defining lifestyle hub for the neighborhood since registering as a certified market on June 7, 2006. It has pioneered digital retail channels by introducing mobile cashback programs and live-commerce operations, while developing theme-based content that reflects local character and pursuing environmental improvement projects — earning its place as a go-to destination for the community.
The event is designed to celebrate two decades of growth alongside local residents and inject new energy into the local economy. Selected for Korea Airports Corporation's community support program, it will serve as a platform for raising public awareness of airport noise-affected areas and promoting coexistence with nearby residents.
The celebration is divided into a pre-event period and a main event day. During the two-day pre-event running June 5 and 6, a "20th Anniversary Receipt Event" will be held. Customers who collect 50 shopping coupons — issued for every purchase of 5,000 won or more at the market during the event period — will receive a prize worth 20,000 won.
The main event on June 7 will feature opening performances, a commemorative ceremony, celebratory performances and a night market. Starting at 2:30 p.m., four local community groups will take the stage with folk songs, janggu drumming, ocarina and saxophone performances. A rice cake-cutting ceremony and a paper airplane wish-sending activity will follow as part of the 20th anniversary commemoration. Invited singers Kim Gyeong-min, Moon Cho-hee, Kang Yu-jin, Lee Seong-geol and Yoon So-mi will then perform to round out the festival atmosphere.
From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., a night market packed with food vendors will open, offering residents a special early-summer evening experience. Visitors who spend 10,000 won or more at night market stalls will receive a complimentary drink voucher.
A buy-one-get-one special event will also run for same-day shoppers. The first 848 customers will receive one entry for spending 10,000 won and two entries for spending 30,000 won, with winners receiving coupons redeemable at shops inside Sinnyeong Market.
Additional participatory events include "Fly a Wish Airplane," in which visitors write wish messages on paper airplanes and launch them toward Daldori, the market's official mascot — open to all residents.
