Drug enforcement agents to be deployed at all postal hubs nationwide

President Lee Jae Myung on Monday reiterated his zero-tolerance stance on drug crimes, warning that anyone who purchases narcotics by mail "will be caught and punished without fail."

Lee made the remarks on X, formerly Twitter, while sharing a news article reporting that the government arrested 23,403 drug offenders last year through a special crackdown operation.

"To those using drugs: we have deployed drug enforcement agents at every postal hub in the country to combat narcotics, a social evil," Lee said. "We are also installing detection equipment, including artificial-nose drug-sniffing devices."

He urged drug users to seek treatment early. "Don't waste your money and end up in prison — please get treatment now," he said.

According to the article Lee shared, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, the Korean National Police Agency, the Korea Customs Service, the Korea Coast Guard and the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety conducted joint special operations drawing on each agency's expertise, arresting 23,403 drug offenders in 2025.

In the 10 months since the Lee Jae Myung administration took office, authorities arrested 5,386 online drug offenders and seized 3,233 kilograms of narcotics at the border — both figures the highest recorded over any comparable period.
