Dongjak-gu announced that it opened a branch of the Dongjak Isu Social Welfare Center (10 Dongjak-daero 25-gil) on May 7 to strengthen community welfare services, and that the facility is now in active operation.

Located near subway lines 4 and 7, the branch was established as a neighborhood welfare hub to give elderly residents and those with mobility difficulties convenient access to welfare services close to home. The main center (7 Dongjak-daero 35cha-gil) sits on elevated ground and had been difficult for many to reach.

The facility covers 219.43 square meters across the first and second above-ground floors, and includes a counseling room, a small-group meeting room, a program room, a lounge and a shared common area.

The branch offers a range of welfare services, including community network-building support, education and cultural programs, and support projects for vulnerable groups.

In May, the branch ran three programs — a middle-aged coffee class called "Isu Cafe," a residents' fitness class featuring line dancing, and a senior singing class — drawing a combined 116 participants.

From June through July, a senior trot music and laughter class will be added to the existing lineup, making for an even more varied schedule. The programs have proven highly popular: registration, which opened May 14, sold out in under a week.

Residents wishing to join a waitlist are advised to call the Dongjak Isu Social Welfare Center branch directly to confirm availability before submitting an application.

Going forward, the branch plans to introduce new monthly programs, including a digital literacy class, a residents' one-day workshop series and a residents' club.

The branch is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Details on upcoming program schedules and enrollment capacity are available on the Dongjak Isu Social Welfare Center's website.
