In-house choir performs for elderly residents in Seoul; employee volunteers travel to Philippines

Korean Air is stepping up its corporate social responsibility efforts with a series of community service activities both at home and abroad.

The airline said Monday that members of its in-house choir, KE Choir, visited the senior center at Deungchon 1 Community Welfare Center in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on Sunday to stage a charity performance for elderly residents. About 29 choir members took part, delivering a program of choral music and instrumental performances.

The concert opened with Ola Gjeilo's "The Ground," followed by choral pieces including "Kkotgureum Sogeui" and "Senoya," a flute-and-clarinet duet, and selections from film and drama series soundtracks. Korean Air also donated a package of supplies to the center alongside the performance.

Overseas, employees from Korean Air and Asiana Airlines joined forces for a volunteer trip through their joint service group, KE-OZ Yeonhap Sinwohoe. The combined team of about 41 members and their families carried out community service in the Clark area of the Philippines from May 28 to May 31.

Clark, located in central Philippines, is home to a concentration of tourism and commercial facilities, but communities on the outskirts of the special economic zone face wide income disparities, leaving many residents and children in difficult circumstances.

The group helped renovate aging facilities at a local community center — replacing broken tiles and repairing out-of-order equipment — and hosted a free meal event for children. Volunteers also donated 150 bags of 5-kilogram rice, school supplies and musical instruments for the community center.

"As an airline loved around the world, we will continue to strengthen our ties with local communities through diverse volunteer activities at home and abroad, and sustain our commitment to helping those in need," a Korean Air official said.

Korean Air conducts ongoing social contribution activities through various in-house volunteer groups, supporting children's facilities, senior welfare centers and facilities for people with disabilities. The volunteer teams operate under the company's ESG — environmental, social and governance — framework, with corporate backing for their community outreach efforts.
