Heavy rain warnings are in effect for parts of Gwangju and South Jeolla Province, with intense rainfall expected to continue through Tuesday afternoon.
As of Tuesday, heavy rain warnings were in effect for Heuksando and Hongdo islands, the southern part of Haenam and Wando, while heavy rain advisories covered Boseong, Yeosu, Jangheung, Gangjin, Jindo, Goheung and northern Haenam.
Cumulative rainfall from the previous day through 5 a.m. Tuesday reached 199.5 millimeters on Wando's Yeoseodo, 133 mm in Haenam Hyeonsan, 125.5 mm on Yeosu's Geomundo, 96 mm on Sinan's Gageodo, and 76 mm each in Goheung Doyang and Jangheung Gwansan.
Rainfall of 20 to 60 mm is forecast across the region, with some areas in southern South Jeolla Province expected to receive more than 80 mm.
The rain is expected to persist through late afternoon, with hourly rainfall of 20 to 30 mm possible in parts of southern South Jeolla Province through the morning.
Hot and humid conditions are forecast to follow once the rain clears. On Wednesday, the heat index is expected to climb above 30 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Daytime highs are forecast at 25 to 29 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 26 to 31 degrees on Wednesday.
