Huang says performance, quality, reliability and supply all matter — 'that's why we work closely with SK'

Partnership seen expanding into long-term AI infrastructure collaboration

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won met Monday on the sidelines of GTC Taipei 2026, taking time to celebrate SK Hynix's recent crossing of the $1 trillion market capitalization threshold.

Chey had earlier attended Huang's GTC keynote in person, taking stock of the rapidly shifting AI technology landscape and the role SK Hynix is positioned to play within it. Observers say the Taiwan visit reinforced both companies' sense of each other as partners in building out the next generation of AI architecture.

SK Hynix shared photos of the meeting on social media Tuesday. Senior executives from both sides attended — SK Group was represented by SK Hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung and SK Telecom Chief Technology Officer Jeong Seok-geun, among others.

Huang and Chey marked SK Hynix's attainment of the $1 trillion market cap milestone, which the chipmaker reached on May 27.

"Senior executives from both companies gathered to share the significance of the achievement," SK Hynix said in its post. "It was a meaningful occasion to reflect on what we have accomplished together in AI memory and to reaffirm our commitment to opening a new frontier in AI infrastructure."

Huang had also referenced SK Hynix's share price surge at the Korea Partner Night held during GTC Taipei.

At a press briefing for South Korean media, Huang said SK Hynix had recently become a $1 trillion company. "I am very happy to see their success," he said.

Huang also highlighted what sets SK Hynix apart as competition over sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory, or HBM4, supply intensifies.

"For HBM supply, performance, quality, reliability and supply capacity all matter," Huang said. "That is why we need to work closely with SK."

SK Hynix holds a dominant position in Nvidia's HBM supply chain, commanding an estimated 50 to 60 percent share of the global HBM market. The company was the sole supplier of fourth-generation HBM3 for Nvidia's H100 GPU after beginning mass production in 2022, and in 2024 it became the first in the world to mass-produce a 12-layer stacked HBM3E. SK Hynix completed development of HBM4 in September last year and has since built out a mass-production framework.

The Taiwan meeting has reinforced expectations that the SK Hynix-Nvidia partnership is evolving into a long-term alliance aimed at jointly defining the AI infrastructure era.

Chey followed Huang's keynote closely throughout, using the address to assess firsthand what role SK Hynix should play as the AI ecosystem undergoes rapid restructuring.

Huang used the keynote to outline the evolution of GPU-based accelerated computing and the latest trends in AI innovation. He also unveiled the mass-production roadmap for Vera Rubin, Nvidia's next-generation AI platform, and detailed ongoing collaboration with Asia-Pacific partners.

Huang officially announced that Vera Rubin "has entered full production," adding that the platform incorporates TSMC's 3-nanometer process, advanced packaging, and HBM4 from Micron, SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics.

He also presented business results in physical AI — covering self-driving cars and industrial robots — along with strategies for building out AI factories and an open-source AI model ecosystem. SK Hynix was cited as an example of an AI factory.

Chey has been stepping up his direct engagement with Huang. The two met in Silicon Valley in February to discuss AI infrastructure cooperation, then met again at GTC in San Jose in March to flesh out the scope of their collaboration.

An SK Hynix official said the company plans to introduce its "Full-Stack AI Memory Creator" vision to major global customers during the trip.

The strategy centers on delivering integrated solutions spanning custom HBM — known as cHBM, or customized HBM — alongside DRAM and NAND, with the goal of boosting AI system performance and power efficiency at the same time.

Starting with HBM4, the company is also accelerating development of next-generation products that combine memory and logic technologies.

SK Hynix plans to extend its roadmap to next-generation technologies including HBF, or high-bandwidth flash memory, and 3D Stacked DRAM on Logic, positioning itself ahead of demand from AI data centers and on-device AI markets.

As AI becomes core infrastructure across industries, the strategic importance of memory chips continues to grow. Chey's repeated appearances at major global AI events are widely read as a signal of his determination to secure a competitive edge in the AI era by deepening ties with Nvidia and other leading technology companies.
