Kim Dae-kwon, the People Power Party candidate for Daegu Suseong-gu district chief, announced Sunday a campaign pledge to transform the Suseongmot area into a world-class tourism destination through the "Arte Suseong Land Urban Development Project."

"We will organically connect existing performance, arts, commercial and historical assets around Suseongmot — including the water performance stage and Suseong Bridge — to develop the lake into Daegu's central cultural tourism hub," Kim said.

The project site covers 103,059 square meters around Suseongmot and will be carried out using a land readjustment method.

Under the land readjustment approach, existing private landowners receive a portion of the developed land in return, reducing the need for public funding while securing well-organized parcels for development.

Private land parcels and reserve lots will be publicly tendered and sold as mixed commercial and accommodation sites, with the resulting development proceeds channeled back into expanding infrastructure such as roads, parks and parking facilities — creating a self-sustaining funding cycle.

At the heart of the project is a waterfront cultural complex featuring a premium hotel and a mixed-use shopping mall. A new entrance to Suseongmot connecting the water performance stage and Suseong Bridge, along with a multi-level plaza, will also be built.

The plan also calls for redeveloping the existing public parking lot site — covering 9,661 square meters — into a two-story, 483-space public parking facility and a multi-level plaza.

"Suseongmot is a cherished space that has long been part of the daily lives of Daegu residents," Kim said. "Through development that draws private creativity and investment while preserving the public good, we will make Suseongmot a destination sought not just by people across the country, but by visitors from around the world."
