Purse set at 1.5 billion won ($998,000), with 270 million won for the winner; junior camp and ESG campaign also planned
Celltrion Group announced Sunday that it will hold the KLPGA Tour Celltrion Queens Masters — carrying a total purse of 1.5 billion won ($998,000) and a winner's prize of 270 million won — at Seongmunan Country Club in Wonju, Gangwon Province, from Friday through Sunday.
A field of 120 players, including the top names on the KLPGA Tour, will compete for the title. Now in its seventh edition, the tournament has adopted the slogan "Breakout the Record," reflecting Celltrion's ambition to establish itself as a global new-drug company.
At the "Queens Cafe" held at the ninth hole during each round, players will serve beverages directly to spectators, creating a space for interaction. The Gallery Plaza will host a fan signing session where attendees can meet players after their rounds, along with other events: a winner-prediction contest, a Celltrion photo challenge, and a 10,000-step walking mission called "Dream Run, 10K Run."
The tournament will also run "Queens Golf Camp," a junior development program offering selected elementary school students a one-night, two-day experience that includes one-on-one lessons from KLPGA professionals and family accommodation support. On Sunday, when the final round is played, participating students will serve as escort kids, walking onto the tee box alongside players in the champion group, and will attend the official awards ceremony.
The day before the tournament opens, Celltrion employees and local residents will hold a "Queens Plogging" environmental cleanup campaign along the Seomgang River in Wonju on Thursday — one day ahead of World Environment Day, which falls on the opening day.
During the tournament, junior players participating in the Queens Golf Camp will spread environmental awareness messages of their own. Wooden assembly kits engraved with those messages will be installed along ecological corridors and among trees on the outskirts of Seongmunan Country Club, creating waypoints to reconnect fragmented ecosystems.
"This year's Celltrion Queens Masters will be a true festival — one that upholds the highest standards of competition while fulfilling our corporate social responsibilities in environmental protection, nurturing young talent, and contributing to the local community," a Celltrion Group official said.
