BNK Busan Bank said Monday it is launching a currency exchange event offering discounts at Japanese discount chain Don Quijote and travel gift items to customers exchanging currency ahead of trips to Japan. The two companies are running the event to strengthen marketing efforts targeting tourists traveling to Japan.

Don Quijote is Japan's largest general discount retailer, operating more than 660 stores across the country, and is a leading shopping brand with a high proportion of foreign visitors, including Koreans.

The event is open to customers who exchange currency through mobile or internet banking, as well as those who do so at branches at Gimhae Airport and the international passenger terminal. At any Don Quijote store in Japan, customers who spend 10,000 yen or more receive an additional 5 percent discount on top of the existing 10 percent duty-free benefit, while those spending 30,000 yen or more receive an additional 7 percent discount.

The digital event runs from Monday through May 31 next year, with discount coupons available on the event pages of Busan Bank's mobile and internet banking platforms. Customers can redeem the discounts by presenting the QR code in the coupon at Don Quijote stores in Japan.

The in-person event runs through Dec. 31 at the Gimhae Airport and international passenger terminal branches, where customers who exchange currency in person will receive travel gift items — a 110V power adapter, in-flight slippers and a luggage accessory bag.
