Samsung Electro-Mechanics holds largest weighting at 34%; year-to-date return reaches 239%
NH-Amundi Asset Management announced Sunday that its HANARO Fn K-Semiconductor exchange-traded fund has surpassed 4 trillion won (about $2.66 billion) in net assets.
According to Korea Exchange, the fund's net assets stood at 4.0303 trillion won ($2.68 billion) as of May 28. After crossing the 2 trillion won ($1.33 billion) mark at the end of April and the 3 trillion won ($2 billion) threshold in mid-May, the fund added another 1 trillion won ($665 million) in roughly two weeks.
The HANARO Fn K-Semiconductor ETF invests in 20 core domestic semiconductor stocks. As of May 28, Samsung Electro-Mechanics carried the largest weighting at 34.41%, followed by SK Hynix at 27.8% and Samsung Electronics at 19.23%.
The fund also holds a broad range of materials, components and equipment companies, including Hanmi Semiconductor — which holds a dominant position in HBM bonding equipment — and Lino Industrial, a specialist in semiconductor test sockets.
The fund has returned 239.42% year-to-date, the highest performance among domestic equity semiconductor ETFs excluding leveraged products.
Returns over the past one month and three months came in at 53.5% and 93.43%, respectively. Samsung Electro-Mechanics shares have been the primary driver of recent gains, buoyed by growing expectations for demand in multilayer ceramic capacitors for AI data centers and FC-BGA package substrates for high-density semiconductors.
"Supply remains constrained while demand is structurally expanding — an asymmetric dynamic driven by global big tech companies competing to secure supply and broadening long-term agreements," said Kim Seung-cheol, head of the ETF investment division at NH-Amundi Asset Management. "There is growing reason to believe this semiconductor upcycle will last longer than previous ones, making now the right time to focus on the medium- to long-term growth of South Korea's semiconductor industry."
NH-Amundi Asset Management's total assets under management surpassed 100 trillion won ($66.5 billion) in April. Its ETF net assets exceeded 8.2 trillion won ($5.46 billion) as of May 28, driven not only by the HANARO Fn K-Semiconductor ETF but also by strong performance from the HANARO K Humanoid Robot Theme TOP10, HANARO Nuclear Power iSelect, and HANARO Securities High-Dividend TOP3 Plus ETFs.
