Videos featuring baby photos and family messages spread the joy of welcoming new life
Gangdong-gu in Seoul is producing short videos featuring photos of babies born this year alongside family congratulatory messages, and will screen them at nine locations across the district — including the district office's electronic billboard — as part of its "2026 Birth Celebration Event Video" project.
The project was established under the slogan "A moment that creates the joy of birth, a future we build together," aiming to foster a more positive public attitude toward having children.
The district will produce videos for families who participated in its birth celebration event featured in the district newsletter and gave their consent. The completed videos will be screened at a total of nine locations, including the large outdoor billboard at the open plaza in front of the district office and several district public libraries. This is one more screening venue than last year's eight, allowing more residents to share in the celebration.
Eligible participants are immediate family members of babies no older than 4 months. Families wishing to take part can apply by emailing the contact listed in the district newsletter with a photo of their baby, the child's name, birth month, a congratulatory message, and the applicant's name and neighborhood.
The district said it will obtain prior consent for video production and screening during the newsletter draft review process to protect personal information. Selected videos will be screened across the district for approximately one month.
"Just as the saying goes, 'It takes a whole village to raise a child,' we want to build a culture where neighbors come together to celebrate a new birth," a Gangdong-gu official said. "We hope these screenings become a cherished memory for families with newborns and an opportunity for the community to reflect on the value of life."
Beyond this project, Gangdong-gu consistently supports childbirth and child-rearing through a range of policies, including providing diapers and garbage bags to all households with newborns and delivering birth congratulation cards.
