The Gimcheon City Council held a legislative training program in the Sokcho and Goseong-gun area from Wednesday through Friday, with lawmakers and administrative staff in attendance.

The training was organized to strengthen national security awareness through on-site education at the Demilitarized Zone and to sharpen lawmakers' capacity to scrutinize the budget ahead of the 262nd second regular session.

On the first day, participants visited security sites in the area. After a security education session at a unification and security park, lawmakers toured the Goseong Unification Observatory, the DMZ Peace Trail and the DMZ Museum, gaining firsthand exposure to the history of the peninsula's division and the realities of national security.

The second and third days were devoted to an eight-hour expert lecture series on budget and settlement review techniques. Sessions covered the fundamentals of local fiscal structure and budget frameworks, practical analysis of budget proposals and settlement documents, methods for identifying wasteful spending and key issues, and oversight of private consignment contracts and local subsidies — all aimed at building lawmakers' ability to rigorously assess budget validity.

Council Speaker Oh Se-gil said the council would draw on the results of the training to deliver legislative work that fully meets the expectations of residents.
