Seoul's Yongsan-gu district office announced Wednesday that it had joined Korea National Railway's Greater Seoul headquarters to host a "veterans' rail outing" at Gangchon Rail Park in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province.

The event was the first joint project under a social-contribution MOU the two organizations signed on Sept. 10. It was organized to offer veterans who sacrificed for the country an opportunity for cultural and leisure activities, and to express gratitude and respect for their service.

About 30 members of Yongsan-gu veterans' organizations took part, along with district office staff and Korea National Railway employees. Participants rode rail bikes through the scenic autumn landscape of Gangchon, bonding and socializing along the way.

Twelve Korea National Railway employees volunteered on-site to help elderly veterans safely and comfortably enjoy the activities.

"It was wonderful to spend a joyful time taking in the beautiful scenery with fellow veterans' families during the peak of autumn foliage," one participant said. "We are grateful to Yongsan-gu and Korea National Railway's Greater Seoul headquarters for organizing such a meaningful occasion."

Yongsan-gu plans to continue its partnership with Korea National Railway's Greater Seoul headquarters to develop a range of welfare projects for veterans. The two organizations also intend to expand their community-contribution activities based on this collaboration.

"This rail outing is a meaningful example of how our MOU with Korea National Railway has translated into tangible improvements in veterans' welfare," Yongsan-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-dae said. "We will continue working with various organizations to enhance veterans' welfare so that those who dedicated themselves to the country can feel respected and honored in their daily lives."
