Gangneung Asan Hospital announced Friday that it received a top rating in both the 11th chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) adequacy assessment and the 8th tuberculosis adequacy assessment released by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.

The hospital has now maintained a first-place rating for 11 consecutive assessments in COPD care and eight consecutive assessments in tuberculosis care, demonstrating its strength in treating respiratory diseases.

COPD is a chronic respiratory condition in which prolonged exposure to harmful gases or fine particulate matter — including cigarette smoke — causes abnormal inflammation in the lungs and bronchial tubes, progressively restricting airflow and making breathing increasingly difficult. Chronic bronchitis and emphysema fall under this category.

"What matters in healthcare quality is not a single strong evaluation, but consistently maintaining that standard," Gangneung Asan Hospital Director Yu Chang-sik said. "We will continue to provide high-quality medical services to local residents through systematic care grounded in standard clinical guidelines."
