Sharing IP valuation and financial support experience

Discussing European IP finance strategies and cooperation

Exploring network to link IP protection with financial support

Korea Technology Finance Corporation, known as Kibo, has held talks with the European Patent Office on ways to expand intellectual property finance and help domestic small and medium-sized venture companies enter European markets.

Kibo said Friday it hosted a bilateral cooperation meeting with the European Patent Office at its Seoul office Thursday. The meeting was attended by Kibo Executive Director Kim Hyun and the head of its technology evaluation division, along with EPO Vice President Nellie Simon and other officials from both organizations.

At the meeting, Kibo introduced its internally developed IP valuation model and shared case studies of financial support, presenting the current state and key achievements of South Korea's IP finance operations.

The two organizations also exchanged views on European IP finance support strategies. They discussed in particular how to build a global cooperation network linking intellectual property protection with financial support for domestic small and medium-sized venture companies seeking to enter European markets.

IP finance is a financing method that assesses the economic value of a company's intellectual property — such as patents — and uses that assessment to secure funding. It serves as a tool to help small and medium-sized venture companies that lack tangible assets but hold strong technology and intellectual property raise capital.

"This was an opportunity to share Kibo's IP valuation expertise with the European Patent Office and expand our global cooperation network," Kim said. "We will continue to support domestic small and medium-sized venture companies with strong technology and intellectual property rights as they establish themselves in overseas markets."
