'Gangnam Challenger Training' pilot sessions set for Saturday and Nov. 14, featuring four space mission experiences
Gangnam-gu is building an immersive space experience center that combines AI, robotics and biotech to cultivate the next generation of science talent.
The district announced it will hold three pilot sessions of "Gangnam Challenger Training," a newly created space cadet training experience at the Gangnam Future Education Center on Yeongdong-daero, on Saturday and Nov. 14.
The program is designed as immersive educational content that blends the future space industry with cutting-edge technology. Participants take on the role of space cadets and carry out simulated training missions, allowing them to engage naturally with emerging technologies such as AI and robotics.
The experience is built around four missions. In the "Robot Systems Engineering Training," participants learn how exploration robots work and operate them directly. The "AI Space Base Design Training" challenges students to design a space station using AI tools. A "Biomedical Training" module covers life support and emergency response in a space environment, while "Space Environment Adaptation Training" uses LED interactive floor panels to build agility and reflexes. Students who complete all four missions receive a "Gangnam Challenger License."
The three pilot sessions are scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 14. Students from the fourth grade of elementary school through the first year of middle school, along with their families, are eligible to participate.
Each student session accepts 16 participants, and four family teams may also join per session. Registration is open on a first-come, first-served basis through the Gangnam Future Education Center website. Inquiries can be directed to the center at 02-3423-7947.
After evaluating the pilot sessions for content quality and operational flow, Gangnam-gu plans to refine the program and launch it officially in January next year.
Gangnam-gu District Mayor Kim Hyun-ki said the facility offers "a space where future technologies like AI and robots can all be experienced together against the backdrop of space — the stage of the future," adding that the district would support young talent "in exploring space with curiosity and growing into the creative, convergence-minded leaders who will guide the Republic of Korea."
