A public walking festival set against crisp autumn air and the deep navy waters of the East Sea will be held this weekend in Goseong, the northernmost peace-tourism destination in Gangwon Province.
The Gangwon Goseong Gallaegil Headquarters will host the 2026 Goseong Gallaegil Scenic Trail Walking Festival starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Hwajinpo Tourism Information Center in Geojin-eup.
Registration is open to all on the day of the event, and participants who complete the course will receive small gifts and snacks.
The course for this year's event is the first scenic trail of the Goseong Gallaegil route.
The trail follows a forested mountain path along the Gwandong Byeolgok Palbaengni-gil to the summit of Eungbongsan, where walkers can take in a sweeping view of Hwajinpo Lake and the sea — a classic example of a Korean lagoon landscape. The stretch is also known as the Eungbong Premium Trail.
The 5-kilometer loop departs from the Hwajinpo Tourism Information Center, passes Kim Il-sung's former villa, the Eungbong summit and an Air Force base, and returns to the starting point — a walk of about one hour and 40 minutes.
