North Gyeongsang Province's Cheongdo-gun has called on the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to include key local transport projects in government plans and provide national funding to expand the area's transport network.
Cheongdo-gun County Chief Park Kwon-hyeon met Land Ministry Second Vice Minister Jeong Eui-gyeong on Wednesday to request support for three regional transport priorities, including an extension of the Daegu metropolitan railway — known as the Daegyeong Line — from Gyeongsan to Cheongdo-gun.
The meeting was arranged ahead of the finalization and official announcement of the Fifth National Railway Network Construction Plan (2026–2035), with the aim of making the case for projects critical to the region.
The three proposals put forward were: the Daegyeong Line extension from Gyeongsan to Cheongdo-gun, improvements to a bottleneck on National Route 20 in the Donggok district, and improvements to a bottleneck on National Route 20 in the Wonjeong district.
The Daegyeong Line extension project would stretch the metropolitan railway by 24 kilometers using existing Gyeongbu Line tracks, at a total projected cost of 42.8 billion won ($31.9 million).
The county also requested national funding to expedite the widening of bottleneck sections on National Route 20 in both the Donggok and Wonjeong districts from two lanes to four lanes.
"Expanding the wide-area transport network — including rail and roads — is a core foundation for balanced regional development and improving living conditions for county residents," Park said. "We will work closely with central government ministries to ensure that key projects are reflected in government plans and carried out without delay."
