Major US stock indexes rallied across the board Wednesday (local time), the day after the Democratic Party's sweeping victory in the midterm elections.
Analysts attributed the gains to improved investor sentiment as political uncertainty eased after the Democratic Party secured control of both the Senate and the House in Wednesday's midterm elections, with President Donald Trump saying he would accept the results.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed up 1,569.40 points, or 3.03 percent, at 53,356.12 on the New York Stock Exchange — its biggest single-day gain in about 19 months since April 9, 2025. The index also reclaimed the 53,000 level for the first time in roughly two months since Sept. 8.
The S&P 500 rose 119.70 points, or 1.58 percent, to close at 7,688.62. The technology-heavy NASDAQ Composite gained 364.50 points, or 1.44 percent, to finish at 25,736.51.
