Korea Food Research Institute's 'Food Technology Award' gold prize
Ildong Bioscience has received official recognition for its technology spanning the generation and activation of beneficial gut microorganisms through to the supply of effective metabolites.
The company develops and sells a combined biotics health supplement called "GQ Lab Pro·Pre·Postbiotics," built around probiotics — live beneficial gut bacteria. The product combines probiotics with prebiotics, which serve as food for the bacteria and promote their growth and activity, and postbiotics, which are metabolic byproducts that deliver health benefits, all in a single product.
Taking into account the characteristics of each of the three ingredients, Ildong Bioscience applied a differentiated formulation technology in which probiotics and prebiotics are in powder form while postbiotics are in granule form. The company also developed a separation and quantification technology that exploits the difference in particle size between granules and powder, enabling independent management of each ingredient.
In addition, the company applied a live-bacteria protective coating technology to the probiotic ingredient to enhance stability during manufacturing and retail. The postbiotics were granulated to improve ingredient quality control and ease of consumption.
Ildong Bioscience won the gold prize Wednesday at the Korea Food Research Institute's 2026 Food Technology Award ceremony, with the recognition affirming the competitiveness of its combined biotics ingredients, technology and product.
"We will focus on research and development to introduce beneficial health supplement ingredients and products with high quality and functionality," a company official said.
