From converting internal data into assets to building AI agents, employees take the lead in reshaping their work environment
Hyundai Steel is stepping up its company-wide AI transformation, or AX, drive with the launch of Steel-X, a next-generation generative AI platform.
The steelmaker said Wednesday it had opened Steel-X, a platform that converts internal documents and data into reusable assets and provides integrated search, analysis and a range of AI services.
Steel-X was built to help employees tap into knowledge scattered across different systems and departments and to reduce time spent on repetitive information searches and document drafting. Hyundai Steel and Hyundai AutoEver collaborated from the planning stage, incorporating actual work-environment conditions and user requirements into the development.
The platform's core functions cover four areas: converting internal knowledge into assets, a multi-AI integrated environment, an employee AI playground, and linkage with business systems and data.
The knowledge-asset conversion function automatically transforms internal documents dispersed across Microsoft Teams, business systems and other sources into formats AI can process and use. This enables company-wide integrated document search as well as document-based question-and-answer and summarization capabilities.
Building on that foundation, the platform creates a multi-AI integrated environment in which employees can choose the most suitable AI for a given task — whether an in-house model or an external AI service — depending on the nature and purpose of their work.
In the employee AI playground, staff can create task-specific knowledge chatbots and AI agents based on personal documents or team folders without any coding knowledge. These can then be shared at the individual, team or company-wide level to spread AI know-how across the organization.
In addition, a data-linkage function connecting Steel-X to internal business systems extends the scope of AI use beyond documents to include business data queries and analysis.
Hyundai Steel expects Steel-X to help employees carry out a wide range of tasks more quickly and efficiently, including searching internal regulations and work manuals, summarizing technical documents, and analyzing equipment history and operational data.
The company plans to continue incorporating feedback from frontline operations and to enhance AI agent capabilities and business-system integration as it accelerates its company-wide AX push.
"Through Steel-X, we plan to broaden the use of internal data and support employees in applying AI directly to their work, steadily strengthening the foundation for our company-wide AX drive," a Hyundai Steel official said.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Steel recently released a brand film capturing more than 70 years of steelmaking history and the experiences of its employees. The film connects the World Rally Championship, one of the world's premier motorsport competitions, with the steel industry, tracing how technology and expertise accumulated across two very different arenas are passed down to the next generation.
