Long-term contract with global pharmaceutical company runs through end of 2031
Cumulative order total since founding surpasses $22.3 billion
Deal seen as fruit of company's three-pillar expansion strategy
Samsung Biologics has signed a new biopharmaceutical CMO contract worth approximately 434.3 billion won ($324 million) with a global pharmaceutical company, significantly expanding its mid- to long-term order backlog.
Samsung Biologics disclosed Tuesday that it had concluded a new biopharmaceutical CMO agreement valued at about 434.3 billion won ($324 million) with a global pharmaceutical company.
The contract runs through Dec. 31, 2031 — a long-term engagement of roughly five years. The identity of the customer and the specific products to be manufactured were not disclosed under confidentiality provisions in the agreement.
With this deal, Samsung Biologics' cumulative order total since its founding has surpassed $22.3 billion, based on minimum purchase commitments. The company has now closed nine large-scale contracts this year alone, by disclosure standards.
Industry observers note that the company secured a large, stable production and supply commitment through 2031 despite a challenging business environment marked by global economic uncertainty and intensifying competition in the contract development and manufacturing organization market. The deal is expected to solidify the company's order backlog and further strengthen its mid- to long-term sales foundation.
Samsung Biologics currently maintains close partnerships with most of the world's top 20 pharmaceutical companies and other major biopharma players, covering everything from drug development to large-scale commercial production. The company plans to continue focusing on winning new customers and expanding contracts with existing ones, in line with growing demand for biopharmaceuticals and the broader push to diversify supply chains.
The latest large-scale contract win is seen as a product of the company's three-pillar expansion strategy, which targets growth across production capacity, portfolio breadth and geographic reach.
Samsung Biologics has moved proactively to meet surging global demand by building what it says is the world's largest single-site manufacturing capacity, while rapidly diversifying its portfolio into areas such as antibody-drug conjugates and peptides. In August, it opened a European sales office in the Netherlands, completing a global sales network spanning the three major pharmaceutical markets of the United States, Japan and Europe.
Samsung Biologics said it will continue to leverage its world-class production capabilities, quality competitiveness and diversified business portfolio to deepen customer trust and accelerate order growth.
