Samil PwC and Lithic Equity Partners, an Asia-Pacific advisory firm specializing in international dispute funding, announced Tuesday they have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen expertise and deepen market understanding in international disputes and third-party funding (TPF).

The MOU aims to raise awareness among companies about professional services in international arbitration and litigation — including TPF-based dispute financing, damages quantification, and accounting and financial analysis — while expanding cooperation between the two firms.

TPF refers to a financial structure in which an external funder covers the costs of litigation or arbitration proceedings. For companies, it serves as a strategic financing tool that allows them to pursue international disputes while managing the financial burden and liquidity impact of dispute costs.

The two firms plan to jointly organize and host seminars, webinars, forums and conferences on international disputes and TPF, and will pursue knowledge-sharing activities including the production of presentations and publications. The partnership is designed to broaden Korean companies' understanding of the financial and professional services available when navigating international disputes. The firms said they will provide practical approaches and real-world insights from a financial perspective to help domestic companies respond to global disputes more strategically and effectively.

Samil PwC offers professional services in damages quantification, expert witness testimony, e-discovery support, accounting and financial analysis, valuation, forensics and tax matters related to international disputes. Lithic Equity Partners provides specialized TPF advisory services, including assessments of the economic merits and funding suitability of dispute claims, dispute budgeting, TPF structure design, global funder market intelligence, and support for comparing, analyzing and negotiating funding terms.

Hong Jun-ki, managing partner of Samil PwC's assurance practice, said that as international disputes grow more complex, the importance of professional services such as damages quantification and financial analysis is increasing. "Through this agreement, we will work to raise market understanding of international disputes and TPF and contribute to strengthening expertise in the field," Hong said.

Moon Jin-seung, chief executive of Lithic Equity Partners, said TPF goes beyond simply financing dispute costs and can serve as a non-recourse financial instrument for companies to respond strategically to international disputes. "Through our collaboration with Samil PwC, we will help Korean companies better understand TPF and contribute to building their financial and analytical capabilities in international disputes," Moon said.

Meanwhile, Lithic Equity Partners has been hosting a range of events to help Korean companies understand TPF and international litigation. In partnership with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the firm held the "2026 Global Trade Dispute Response Forum" in March and a forum on global intellectual property disputes — titled "Global IP Disputes: Winning Strategies for Korean Companies" — in October. In June, it hosted a forum on international litigation and accounts receivable recovery for construction companies.
