Korea Tourism Organization to hold data seminar

Registration open through Nov. 12

Big data drives medical tourism marketing

An event aimed at charting the future of K-medical tourism through analysis of foreign patients' movement and spending data will also unveil key trends expected to shape South Korea's inbound tourism market in 2027, offering a big data-driven blueprint for the industry.

The Korea Tourism Organization said Monday it is accepting registrations through Nov. 12 for the third edition of its "Korea Tourism Data Seminar."

The seminar will be held Nov. 26 at the ASEM Ballroom in COEX, with K-medical tourism as its first topic. The session will examine the key characteristics and travel and spending patterns of foreign medical tourists derived from a comprehensive analysis of tourism big data, and will introduce marketing campaigns the organization has run in the medical tourism sector. A panel discussion featuring medical tourism experts will follow, exploring growth opportunities and challenges facing K-medical tourism and ways to strengthen public-private cooperation to boost the sector.

The second session will feature case studies from tourism companies that have achieved results using the Korea Tourism Data Lab, along with a showcase of newly added datasets and expanded service features on the platform.

The final session will focus on the outlook for Korean tourism trends in 2027. Drawing on tourism data analysis, it will examine shifting domestic travel demand and consumer behavior, and present key trends the tourism industry and local governments should watch.

The seminar is open to anyone with an interest in tourism and data. Registration and further details are available on the Korea Tourism Data Lab website.

Kim Young-mi, head of the Korea Tourism Organization's Tourism AI Innovation Division, said understanding market shifts through data and translating those insights into real-world results are essential to strengthening the tourism industry's competitiveness. "We hope this seminar will serve as a platform to explore new growth opportunities for K-medical tourism and to share experiences in using tourism big data as well as insights into the future tourism market," Kim said.
