Taihan Cable & Solution announced Monday that it has renamed its cable-laying vessel, the CLV Scandi Connector, the Daehan Connector.

The renaming was pursued to embed the company's identity into one of its core subsea installation assets while raising its profile in the global submarine cable market.

The new name reflects the company's ambition to successfully connect submarine cables under the Taihan name. The word "Connector" was retained from the original name to carry forward the reputation and identity the Scandi Connector had built in the global market as a dedicated cable-laying vessel.

The Daehan Connector is an approximately 11,000-ton submarine cable-laying vessel that Taihan Cable & Solution acquired from Norwegian marine contractor DOF in May. The ship can load up to 7,000 tons of submarine cable in a single voyage and is capable of handling internal and external grid connections within offshore wind complexes, as well as long-distance grid interconnection and HVDC submarine cable installation. The vessel has been deployed on 27 projects, laying roughly 1,300 kilometers of submarine cable.

Taihan Cable & Solution operates South Korea's only CLV fleet dedicated to offshore wind, comprising the Pallos and the Daehan Connector, giving the company the flexibility to deploy the most suitable vessel depending on project requirements and installation conditions. Building on this, the company plans to strengthen its turnkey offering — spanning submarine cable design, production, transport and installation.

"With two CLVs, we will continue to expand our competitiveness in the global market by taking on a wide range of submarine cable projects," a company official said.
