Hanwha Solutions posted sales of 3.95 trillion won ($2.95 billion) and an operating profit of 90.5 billion won in the third quarter, driven by strong demand for solar modules bound for the United States. Sales rose 17.4 percent from the same period a year earlier, and the company swung to an operating profit from a loss.

By business segment, the renewable energy unit recorded sales of 2.16 trillion won and an operating profit of 105.1 billion won, buoyed by robust sales of US-bound modules and the residential energy business.

The chemical unit, by contrast, posted sales of 1.34 trillion won and an operating loss of 44.7 billion won, as a lagging effect tied to Middle East war-driven oil price swings in the first half of this year faded.

The advanced materials unit recorded sales of 291.9 billion won and an operating profit of 38.9 billion won. Production volumes from major customers for lightweight composite materials expanded in North America, while solar material sales remained stable.

"With Solar Hub now in full operation, we have achieved three consecutive quarters of operating profit, led by the renewable energy segment," said Lee Jae-bin, chief financial officer of Hanwha Solutions. "In the fourth quarter, module selling prices are expected to continue rising in line with changes in US trade policy, but short-term earnings volatility is anticipated due to the lag in reflecting selling prices and schedule and cost fluctuations in EPC projects."
