Yoo Da-yoon, a fourth-year student in the Department of Food Service, Culinary Arts and Baking at Honam University, won the grand prize at the 4th Gokseong National Culinary Competition, held Friday.
The competition was held under the theme "Gokseong K-Bapsang Culinary Contest" to promote consumption of local agricultural and specialty products and boost food tourism. A total of 38 teams from across the country applied, with 10 advancing past the preliminary round to compete in the finals.
Yoo showcased an original dish using taro, melon and baeksemi — signature local agricultural products of Gokseong — reinterpreting the flavors and characteristics of regional ingredients with a contemporary culinary sensibility.
