Railway operator also receives AI ethics compliance mark, pledges to upgrade management framework to meet global standards
Korea Railroad Corporation's push to build a management framework for its AI-based voice ticketing service has yielded tangible results.
Korail announced Thursday that it has obtained ISO/IEC 42001 certification, the international standard for AI management systems.
ISO/IEC 42001 is an international standard jointly developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) to govern AI management systems.
Korail's framework for providing and operating its AI-based voice ticketing service was recognized as meeting the international standard's requirements for enhancing AI reliability and ensuring responsible development and operation.
The company has worked to embed a sound AI culture across the organization — revising internal regulations and guidelines on AI use and, in July, announcing an AI Ethics Charter that all employees pledged to uphold.
Korail has also placed particular emphasis on AI ethics education and recently received the AI Ethics Compliance Mark issued by the National Information Society Agency (NIA).
"The goal of our AI transformation is to deliver better rail services that passengers can feel in their daily lives," Korail President Kim Tae-seung said. "We will continue to upgrade our management framework in line with international standards so that the public can place even greater trust in the AI services they use."
