Daegu City announced Thursday that the landscaping of the Daemyeong Xi Grand City residential complex has been named the grand prize winner at this year's 31st Daegu City Landscaping Awards.
The excellence award went to the landscaping of Anardd Beomeo, a mixed-use residential complex, while the merit award went to Hillstate Dongin The Sky, a residential complex.
Winners were selected through a comprehensive evaluation of their contribution to improving the urban landscape, harmony with the surrounding environment, and the quality of design and construction.
Particularly high marks were given for lush greenery, water features and layered garden designs that blend architecture with nature.
The grand prize winner, Daemyeong Xi Grand City, is a residential complex in Daemyeong-dong, Nam-gu. Built around the theme of "living with the greatness of nature in everyday life," the complex features large trees, themed gardens and a variety of water features.
Tiered water and green spaces that take advantage of the site's natural elevation changes allow residents to experience nature and enjoy rest and leisure in their daily lives.
The excellence award winner, Anardd Beomeo, is a mixed-use residential and commercial building in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, built on the former site of Daegu MBC.
Multi-tiered water features, terraced flower beds, a teahouse and a rock garden create a striking entrance landscape. An artist-designed garden reinterpreting the aesthetics of traditional Korean gardens in a contemporary style, along with publicly accessible open space, provides a place of rest in the heart of the city.
The merit award winner, Hillstate Dongin The Sky, is a residential complex on Taepyeong-ro in Jung-gu. Under the theme "Green Oasis," the project connects surrounding green spaces with gardens within the complex.
The Daegu City Landscaping Awards, established in 1995, marked its 31st edition this year. Winners are selected from projects completed within the past two years through a review by the city's urban forest development and management deliberation committee, followed by on-site inspections.
"High-quality landscaping is an important asset that elevates the dignity and competitiveness of a city," said Kim Ok-jae, head of Daegu City's forest and green space management division. "We will actively identify outstanding landscaping cases and expand green spaces that improve residents' quality of life through the promotion of private-sector landscaping and enhancement of the urban landscape."
