'We will continue providing practical support so victims can prepare for their future'
Paju held its 20th Sex Trafficking Victims Rehabilitation Support Committee meeting Wednesday and selected one additional victim for rehabilitation assistance, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 24 since the program's first support decision in May 2023.
The city has continued its support efforts even as the dismantling of sex-trafficking districts enters its final stages, maintaining that practical recovery and self-reliance assistance for victims must proceed alongside the closure process.
Current support covers living expenses, residential assistance, vocational training costs and self-sufficiency grants, alongside psychological and emotional counseling and case management services. The city operates a sustained support framework aimed at helping victims build a stable lifestyle within the community rather than limiting assistance to short-term measures.
Kim Yeong-mi, head of the women and family affairs division, said continued attention and support for victims after the dismantling of sex-trafficking districts is of paramount importance. "We will continue providing practical support so that victims can build the foundation for their own lives and prepare for their future," Kim said.
