The development of a national industrial complex for space launch vehicles in Goheung-gun, South Jeolla Province, is gaining momentum after the government's Central Industrial Complex Planning Committee completed its review of the project.

Eleven anchor companies and startups — including Hanwha Aerospace and Innospace — have already signed agreements to move into the complex, and the Agency for Defense Development is also set to establish a presence there, raising expectations that the site will emerge as a hub for the space launch vehicle industry.

Goheung-gun said Wednesday that Korea Land and Housing Corporation, the project operator, is working through a supplementary review process, with official approval and public notice of the national industrial complex plan expected next month.

The space launch vehicle national industrial complex will be built on Oenaro-do in Bongnae-myeon, covering 1.52 million square meters. Land compensation procedures are set to begin next year, with construction groundbreaking scheduled for 2028.

The Goheung Space Launch Vehicle National Industrial Complex is a core project within the space industry cluster. It is expected to strengthen cooperation between private companies and research institutions, boosting the competitiveness of the domestic launch vehicle industry and energizing the broader space industry ecosystem.

To improve access to the Naro Space Center at the southern tip of the Goheung Peninsula, the county is planning a highway linking Goheung and Gwangju, a four-lane expansion of the road between Goheung-eup and the Naro Space Center, and a new high-speed rail line connecting Beolgyo, Goheung and Nokdong Station in Doyang-eup.
