Philip Morris Korea to hold 'Happy Sseudam Day' plogging event Friday and Saturday
Philip Morris Korea will hold a citizen-participation environmental campaign in the Seongsu-dong area of Seoul's Seongdong-gu on Friday and Saturday.
The event, called Happy Sseudam Day, is an urban cleanup campaign run jointly by Philip Morris Korea and the Environment Foundation. Last year, the campaign collected a total of 159.51 kilograms of trash — including cigarette butts — in the Yeonnam-dong area of Seoul. This year's edition invites citizens to take a more active role, with activities designed to encourage reflection on illegal dumping and make everyday environmental action feel enjoyable.
The event adds a gamified twist: participants take on the role of "Sseudam detectives," following trails of litter scattered across the neighborhood. They collect trash and cigarette butts, log the types and locations of waste, and complete a series of step-by-step investigation missions.
The program also features a range of activities — a "trash mapping" exercise that marks spots where litter is most frequently found, upcycling and clothing-reform workshops using discarded items, and an environment-themed tarot card experience. The event closes with a reflective segment in which participants consider their own littering habits and how to change them.
A separate space at the venue will host a hands-on experience zone for Modumoa, a resource-recycling program. Through game-based content and an exhibition, visitors can learn firsthand about the importance of proper waste sorting and get a feel for the program's goals and values.
"We hope this gives people a natural opportunity to walk through the city, reflect on the environmental issues around us, and experience the meaning of small, everyday actions," said Lee Hong-seok, chief executive of Philip Morris Korea.
