Seoul's Gwanak-gu held a mobile dental clinic for residents at the Seoul YWCA Bongcheon Community Welfare Center on Monday, the district announced Tuesday.

The mobile dental program launched in 2024 at the Gwanak Dream Town Complex 2 apartment complex and expanded last year to the Gwanak Senior Welfare Center.

The district had provided oral health education to senior residents at the Seoul YWCA Bongcheon Community Welfare Center last month, and this week followed up with the mobile dental clinic.

This year, the program moved to the Seoul YWCA Bongcheon Community Welfare Center — a community integrated care hub — so that residents could access dental health services closer to where they live.

The clinic was organized through a partnership among the Gwanak-gu Public Health Center, Gwanak Seoul National University Dental Hospital, and the Seoul YWCA Bongcheon Community Welfare Center. About 40 residents who had pre-registered received initial consultations, oral examinations, and preventive care from public health center staff.

Residents requiring additional treatment were seen aboard a fully equipped mobile dental bus, where Gwanak Seoul National University Dental Hospital staff performed scaling, gum treatment, and prosthetic repairs.

The district plans to continue follow-up care by referring residents who need further examination or treatment to free services at Gwanak Seoul National University Dental Hospital, and by helping them book fluoride application and scaling appointments at the public health center's oral health clinic.

"Being able to offer residents professional dental health services by leveraging the outstanding medical infrastructure of Gwanak Seoul National University Dental Hospital is a major strength unique to Gwanak-gu," Gwanak-gu District Mayor Park Jun-hee said. "We will continue to closely connect the community's diverse medical and welfare resources so that more residents can receive the dental care they need close to home."

Meanwhile, Gwanak-gu is also continuing its senior health accompaniment program this year, under which public health centers and private medical institutions collaborate to provide in-home visit services for older residents.

The program dispatches a dedicated health team — composed of doctors, nurses, dietitians, and other specialists at the public health center — to visit the homes of seniors referred by local clinics who have chronic conditions that are not being adequately managed on their own.

Gwanak-gu has run the program since 2018, recognizing that most older residents wish to spend their later years in the communities where they have lived.
