Selected for program transferring unused patents from large firms to smaller companies at no cost
JPI Healthcare will receive a free transfer of Samsung Electronics' mobile X-ray technology, securing battery detachment and charging-control capabilities for its imaging equipment.
The company said Monday it had been selected for the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy–Samsung Electronics technology-sharing program.
The program transfers unused patents held by large companies or public institutions to small and midsize enterprises at no cost, aiming to strengthen their technological competitiveness and promote shared growth. JPI Healthcare has supplied X-ray grids and advanced imaging equipment to global markets using its own manufacturing technology. The company expects the newly acquired patent to significantly enhance the performance of its next-generation mobile diagnostic imaging devices.
The transferred patent covers battery operation and charging control for mobile X-ray devices. It includes a drawer-type sliding battery detachment structure, a multi-BMS (battery management system) and dual safety cutoff circuit, a low-current count-based charging cutoff method, and wireless docking charging functionality — technologies designed to improve battery replacement convenience and power-operation stability.
JPI Healthcare has built design and system-integration expertise in mobile imaging equipment through the development of its hybrid mobile CBCT (cone-beam computed tomography) system "DeteCT," and is now pursuing development of a mobile X-ray system. The company plans to combine the drawer-type detachable battery and charging-control technology into a single "mobile X-ray imaging package solution" that integrates equipment and power-management functions.
"We will develop a mobile X-ray solution that medical staff can use more conveniently and supply it to medical facilities at home and abroad," a company official said.
