Kakao Bank is launching a new service with reading platform Flybook that uses AI to recommend books and help users build reading habits.

The two companies are rolling out a service called "Building Reading Habits Together." Kakao Bank will handle in-app connectivity while Flybook manages service operations.

Customers can access the service through the "Benefits" tab in the Kakao Bank app. An "AI Reading Mate" recommends print books for users to borrow or purchase, and once a book is finished, the system suggests the next one.

The service also lets users set a target completion date and a daily reading goal. They can share reading experiences with friends and family or join a reading community to connect with other users.

Customers who sign up through Kakao Bank receive 1,000 points redeemable for book purchases or subscriptions. Existing Flybook members who link their accounts with Kakao Bank are eligible for the same benefit. The points are issued once per person.

Kakao Bank said it designed the service to make reading easy and enjoyable in line with the "text hip" trend — a cultural movement that treats reading as a cool lifestyle choice. The move is part of a broader strategy to give customers more reasons to open the app beyond banking transactions, deepening everyday touchpoints with users.

"We will continue to expand our partnership offerings so that a wide range of everyday pleasures and benefits can be connected through Kakao Bank," a company official said.
