Eighty-three companies from Gangwon Province will hold export consultations with 97 buyers from 35 countries at Hotel Interburgo Wonju on Tuesday and Wednesday — the fourth such event this year.

The overseas buyer invitation forum pairs provincial exporters with prominent foreign buyers in one-on-one consultations.

With support from Gangwon Province and Wonju, organizers expect more than 1,000 rounds of export talks to take place. The event will also feature a product exhibition and live broadcasts by overseas influencers.

Ahead of the forum, Gangwon Province held two rounds of online pre-screening consultations in August and September. From a pool of 200 participating buyers, organizers selected invitees based on their track record of contracts with provincial exporters and their credit standing.

This year, the province plans to broaden its buyer pool by bringing in overseas buyers registered with the Overseas Koreans Agency, while incorporating recommendations from its overseas offices and the preferences of local companies to maximize the chances of concluded deals.

"Developing a good product is only half the battle — securing a steady stream of trading partners through market development is just as important," said Kim Mun-gi, director of the Gangwon Province economic affairs bureau. "We hope this event will serve as an opportunity to expand the base of export-ready companies in the province by matching them with buyers who have a high likelihood of signing actual contracts."
