Seoul's Gangdong-gu announced it will hold a ceremony to mark Child Abuse Prevention Day, observed annually on Nov. 19.

The ceremony will take place Nov. 20 at Ainuri Hall on the third floor of the Gangdong Children's Center, with the aim of recognizing the efforts of child protection workers and raising community awareness about child abuse prevention.

Now in its sixth year, the ceremony will be held in two parts. The first will open with a vocal performance by Bae Seong-yun, followed by a commendation ceremony honoring individuals who have contributed to child abuse prevention and response.

The second part will feature a special lecture by Kim Bung-nyeon, a professor at Seoul National University Children's Hospital widely regarded as one of South Korea's leading experts in pediatric and adolescent developmental neuroscience. His talk, titled "Understanding the Brain Development of Adolescent Children," will explore the neurological and behavioral characteristics of teenagers and give parents a chance to address questions about child-rearing and reflect on their relationships with their children.

The lecture is free and open to all Gangdong-gu residents. Registration opens Monday on the Gangdong-gu district office website on a first-come, first-served basis.

"I am grateful to all those working on the front lines of child protection," Gangdong-gu District Mayor Lee Su-hee said. "I hope this ceremony will serve as an opportunity for residents to come together and think about practical ways to keep children safe." She added that the district would work to create an environment where children can grow up safely and happily through systematic and sustained child protection policies.
