GS Caltex, a tenant company at the Yeosu National Industrial Complex, announced Wednesday that it had carried out a joint public-private volunteer activity on Wolhodo together with the Yeosu Coast Guard, the Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Yeosu Beauty Volunteer Association.

The activity took place Tuesday in the island village of Wolhodo in Hwajeong-myeon during the 2026 Yeosu World Island Expo, with the aim of raising awareness of the value of islands, building public consensus on the need for their preservation, and delivering community support to residents of island areas.

About 40 volunteers took part, including Yeosu Coast Guard Chief Myeong Seong-min, Yeosu Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Han Mun-seon, and GS Caltex Corporate Affairs Director Kim Jong-eun.

The group traveled to Wolhodo aboard a Coast Guard vessel and carried out coastal litter collection, village cleanup and flower garden maintenance.

They also delivered first-aid kits stocked with emergency supplies through a mobile community service unit, provided hair and beauty services for elderly residents, and replaced household light fixtures.

The event was part of a practical project by the Yeosu Regional New Entrepreneurship Council, launched in December 2024, with public institutions, businesses and the local community joining forces to advance mutual benefit and sharing.

"It is meaningful to reflect on the precious value of islands during the Island Expo and to see multiple organizations come together to help residents," a GS Caltex official said. "We will continue to work with local communities to practice sharing and mutual growth."
