Psychiatrist Oh Eun-young delivered a sharp rebuke to a husband who tried to blame his wife for his repeated infidelity.
Monday's episode of MBC's reality program "Oh Eun-young Report — Marriage Hell" continued the story of the "accusation couple," picking up from the previous week.
In the episode, the wife revealed her husband's habitual cheating.
She said he had not only brought another woman into their home but had also persistently pursued affairs through entertainment venues, dating apps and group chat rooms up until recently.
The wife said she had undergone a sexually transmitted infection test because of her husband's frequent infidelity, and the results came back positive for a sexually transmitted pathogen. The husband was subsequently found to have the same infection.
The husband responded by claiming that after coming home from work he had wanted to talk and be physically affectionate, but his wife was either asleep or refused to have sex with him. "If she had accepted me, I would not have had an affair," he said.
When the wife brought up his past behavior again, the husband showed visible irritation. "So do I have to apologize for the rest of my life? This isn't something that warrants that," he said.
Oh pushed back firmly. "Even in a marriage, spouses are separate individuals, so their sexual desires cannot always be the same," she said. "Sexual dissatisfaction or conflict does not justify seeking physical contact with someone else." She added, "Just because you feel a certain way doesn't mean you have to act on it. Aren't we adults?"
When the husband admitted that acknowledging his wrongdoing made him feel small and ashamed, Oh did not hold back. "That's not confidence — that's shamelessness," she said. "You make other people's faults seem enormous while minimizing your own."
