GS Global is entering the carbon credit business in partnership with Hushi Partners, a carbon emissions trading specialist.

GS Global announced Tuesday that it made an equity investment in Hushi Partners on Monday to establish a framework for strategic cooperation.

The investment is a preemptive move ahead of the fourth phase of South Korea's Emissions Trading Scheme, set to run from 2026 to 2030.

Tighter caps on total allowable emissions, expanded paid allocations and stricter global carbon regulations are increasing the burden on companies to secure credits and driving up price volatility. GS Global has decided to develop carbon credits as a new growth engine in response.

Through the investment, GS Global aims to build capabilities in carbon credit methodology development and the identification and operation of reduction projects, strengthening its foundation for medium- to long-term carbon asset commercialization.

Founded in 2021, Hushi Partners covers the full carbon credit value chain — from methodology development and greenhouse gas reduction project identification and operation to securing Korean Offset Credits and forward trading. The company also holds greenhouse gas reduction credits tied to electric vehicle adoption.

Hushi Partners' annual sales surged from 200 million won ($149,000) in 2024 to 3.2 billion won last year, with 7.8 billion won projected for this year. Net profit for the period turned positive last year, and the company is expected to record approximately 3.3 billion won in net profit this year.

GS Global plans to maximize synergies with its existing business operations following the investment.

The company also intends to combine its overseas network of steel, energy and industrial materials customers with Hushi Partners' carbon reduction expertise to expand the identification and procurement of carbon reduction projects targeting international clients.
